The above article talks about the positive benefits of using screen casting in your classroom. Using screen casting as a way to convey your topic you are able to engage many of the different types of learning styles. There is visuals, music, talking, color, all in an interactive format. The think I love the most about a screen cast video for teaching is that students who need information repeated can just replay the video or a part of the video.

This article talks about the benefits of students using screen casting as a way to present their projects. This is a great use of this technology. This will help the shy student to feel more confident in front of a group of peers. The article also mentions how you could teach reading, comprehension, and test taking strategies by showing students where the answers are located within a certain reading. This is great because students can go back and check there answers and determine why they got the answer correct or not.

SCREENCAST video
This is a screen cast video I made using Doceri on my iPad about ancient river civilizations.
Here is the link for my Doceri screen cast.
photo booth video Instead I used the editing tools on youtube
This is my Photo booth video, however I used the editing tools one YouTube so I guess it is my YouTube editing video. I had trouble uploading the video into Photo booth on my iPad so I decided to try using a different editing tool to see how it would work. YouTube editing is very easy and it shows you a split screen of your original video next to your edited video. I found this feature very helpful. I tried to improve the quality of the video which I recorded using my iPad but there was not much I could do to improve the quality. Also my daughter was recording and so I did use the stabilizing feature which did help the shaking a little bit but did slightly cut the top of the video off. I was able to choose from several filters as well as improve the contrast and sound and even lighting. All of these features did help and I can see how they could benefit a different video unfortunately there was only a little bit of help for the quality of my video. When I posted the video onto my site it was too large and I had to go in and adjust the length and width of the video to make if fit.
Youtube video
This is my original video of me teaching to my husband and son while my daughter was filming. I used my iPad so I had to upload it to my Google Drive account in order to upload it to YouTube on my computer. I also found out that on my iPad I could upload it directly to YouTube. The quality is not very good and I am not sure if it is the lighting in the house or if it is the iPad itself. I have recorded using my iPad outside and the quality seems to be a bit better. So perhaps it is a lighting issue, further experimentation is needed to determine this. I have a video camera that I use for recording but I wanted to try to use my iPad for a change.
How my students will use these tools
I will definitely be using these tools with my students. I think the capabilities are endless and it engages students in a different way. This allows students to be creative and reorganize their knowledge using technology. Some students may be gifted in presenting information but not able to visually put things together, well technology helps that aspect but also the shy student who struggles to speak up in front of the class will be confident in their presentation ability because they can have their presentation already completed or parts of it. I love that this technology can be used to help those students who need information repeated and also what a great tool for students who missed class. Lets not forget getting the parents involved in what the students are learning can be easily transmitted to them as well. My english language learners can have the video repeated or possibly even translated. Information or class can be recorded and uploaded so they do not fall behind. The more technology I learn to use the more I will be able to help all of my students.
